El Shamar Beriyth – God Who Keeps His Covenant (Deuteronomy 7: 9). Faithfulness to promises is a quality often absent in our world today. We say we’ll do something then we don’t-maybe we forget; maybe we change our minds; maybe we never intended to do it in the first place. We make vows and treat them as optional-binding only when we believe keeping them will lead to our own happiness.

But in Scripture, we see a faithful God who keeps his covenant. (Deuteronomy 7: 9) says, “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.”

In Nehemiah 1: 5, we read the beginning of the prophet’s words, “Then I said: ‘Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments.”

Solomon says in (1 Kings 8: 23), “Lord God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, who keeps covenant and mercy with your servants that walk before you with all their heart.”

Numbers 23: 19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”

In (Hebrews 6, the author writes regarding the fulfillment in Christ of Old Testament Law: “Accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convingcingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened (mediated) with an oath. This was so that, by two unchangeable things (His promise and His oath) in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false and deceive us, we who have fled (to Him) for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before (us).”

And in (Psalm 111: 5) we read that the Lord “Will Remember His convenant forever.”

Promises are treated lightly in today’s world. But God does not treat His promises lightly. He is the God Who keeps His covenant.
